APP DESIGN

Bookshelf

An app to promote social interaction focused on books and reading culture.

The Scope

UI/UX Design, Branding, Research, App Design, Wireframing & Prototyping

The Problem

After undertaking some initial research I decided to pose a solution to this growing problem of less and less people reading books in today's modern society.

Research

Research included competitor research, branding analysis and target audience research. I found many new trends developing in the reading communities, such as a new one on TikTok - BookTok. Which helped provide good evidence that there is still a strong demand for this type of service.

Concept

This led to the idea of creating a standalone app where readers and book enthusiasts can come together and update their reading lists, provide ratings and converse with likeminded people.

Iteration

I started the development process by creating a user journey, depicting the different sections of the app. After iterating and refining, this naturally progressed into sketching out some initial wireframes for how the platform could look.

These are the initial wireframes I sketched out for the app concept. My aim was to create a clean and simple layout to allow the content to have the user's full attention.

Initially I opted to have the book covers appear full size but after some user testing I came to the decision to alter the scale of the 'highlighted' title - enabling a greater user experience.

Whilst user testing I continued to iterate and develop the different sections of the app, concluding the design by implementing the different design elements and content.
